Hearts WW1 Memorial - Cycle Tour Jun 07
This is a trip during National Bike Week from 15th June which offers free ferry crossing to France if you have a bike. We will be visiting the Football (Hearts ) Memorial in Contalmaison as well as a WW1 war grave and museum.
Costs are £25 return train to london, £20 return train to Dover, free ferry travel, no bike hire ( you have your own), 5 days off work. Accommodation in France is around £20 a day and say £25 a day spending. Temperatures should be about 65, wine at French prices.

Monday 18th June
- Train at 7 am Waverley, Arrives Kings Cross at 11:50 ( 4 bikes booked)
- Cycle to Charing Cross through London which is 11 minutes according to this map
- Train at 12:53 from Charing Cross arriving at Dover Priory 14:23. Bikes can not be booked but ticket covers any train. No bike travel after 16:00.
- Ferry at 16:30 ( check in by 15:30) arrives Calais at 18:45
- Cycle to Calais Centre Europeen de Sejour
Tuesday 19th June
55 mile cycle past V1/V2 launch site, St Omer, Aire Sur Lys to Bethune and stay at Eden Hotel
Wednesday 20th June
38 mile cycle via Vimy Ridge to Arras then Ocean Villa's tearoom in Auchonvillers
Thursday 21st June
20 mile cycle to Thiepval, Le Tommy tearoom, biggest shell crater in Somme, Longueval, Contalmaison. Stay in Royal Picardie hotel, Albert.
Friday 22nd June
25 mile cycle to Amiens birthplace of Jules Vernes. Train to Calais and stay in Calais Centre Europeen de Sejour
Saturday 23rd June
- Ferry from Calais at 11:15am ( check in at 10:15am), arrives Dover 11:30
- Train at 13:33 Dover priory to London Charing Cross at 15:06
- Cycle Charing Cross to Kings Cross
- Train at 16:00 from Kings Cross to Edinburgh arrives 20:37
- Cycle home
